The National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) celebrated its thirty-fifth anniversary in Miami Beach, FL this past October. It was the council’s largest-ever conference and business opportunity fair. When NMSDC was founded in 1972, purchases of goods and services from minority businesses were a small fraction of the $100 billion-plus that NMSDC’s 3,500 corporate members now spend with its certified minority suppliers.
In keeping with the 2007 theme of “building the global economy of tomorrow today,” minority entrepreneurs attended sessions, workshops and events aimed at helping them become (or continue as) world-class suppliers.
The business opportunity fair offered a great chance for MBEs and corporate members to share information and make contacts. Both MBE personnel and the corporate purchasing people they contacted gained a new sense of excitement about NMSDC and the minority business development it fosters.
